Bunk and shared rooms

Fair space for siblings under one Kraków roof

Plan a shared room

Using height the way kamienice allow

High ceilings in Old Town stock make bunks and loft beds practical when the floor plate is small. We check ladder clearance against cornices and chandelier hooks, and we confirm that upper mattresses leave enough headroom for older children. Charcoal frames ground the structure visually so the room does not feel like stacked temporary furniture.

Where ceilings are lower in post-war blocks, we prefer twin beds side by side with a shared wardrobe wall instead of forcing a bunk that feels cramped.

Equal territory without identical beds

Siblings share better when each has a clear shelf, a light they control, and a strip of wall for their own drawings. Soft rose and mint can mark zones subtly without painting the room into rival camps. Curtain tracks or open shelving create soft privacy for homework or quiet play when one child sleeps earlier than the other.

Noise, light, and staggered bedtimes

Shared rooms in busy streets near the Main Market need blackout that works for both beds and a night light that does not wake the early sleeper. We place desks away from the bunk ladder so evening reading does not become a climbing hazard for a younger sibling still awake.

Storage for two wardrobes in one footprint

Double hanging rails, labelled drawers, and under-bed boxes keep clothes and toys from migrating into the only free floor path. In Kazimierz lofts with fewer walls, freestanding wardrobes can also act as room dividers, giving each child a sense of “my side” without building permanent partitions that landlords disallow.

Safety hardware parents can trust

Guard rails, anchored ladders, and rounded corners on built-ins are non-negotiable. We specify fixings suitable for brick and plaster typical of Polish tenement walls, and we avoid relying on lightweight plasterboard alone where a bunk attaches. After installation we walk through with parents so everyone knows how to use the upper bed safely.
